Startup Weekend is a global sensation where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and start-up enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch start-ups.

The event begins with open-mic pitches on Friday, when attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday, teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practising LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening, teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts, after which the supreme and second place winners, plus honourable mentions, are named.

The Palmerston North Startup weekend is sponsored and organised by BCC. The first one was in 2010 and it was the first New Zealand Startup Weekend outside the major cities. Since, New Zealand has successfully run Startup Weekends in almost all of the regions across the country.

We’re very lucky in Palmerston North to have a wide array of stakeholders that allow us to run a successful event. The past two years has seen Downtown Cinemas as our naming right sponsor combined with 24 other VIPs! For more information, visit the SW Palmy website here.

Startup Weekend – since it all began in Boulder Colorado in 2007, more than 45,000 people have participated globally, with 1100 of those in New Zealand.
